9 Foods To Grill That You Never Have But Totally Should

The grill may be the last place you’d expect to see an avocado—but it’s a tasty game changer! Go beyond basic steaks, burgers, and hot dogs with unexpected options for your next backyard cookout.

1. Pizza

If you think it’s great in the oven wait till you try it on the grill! Brush both sides of dough with olive oil and grill over direct heat for one to two minutes or until the dough starts to get firm. Remove from heat and place grilled side down on a baking sheet. Add toppings, return to grill, and cook pizza until dough is crispy and cheese is melted.

2. Tacos

Make store-bought tortillas taste homemade by warming on the grill for one to two minutes. Fill with your family’s favorites and serve.

3. Cornbread

Grill a favorite skillet cornbread recipe over low heat, covered, for 12 to 14 minutes right alongside your main dish. Great way to avoid heating the kitchen on a hot day!

4. Avocado

If you love avocado toast, try this: Brush avocado halves with olive oil and grill for two to three minutes. Spread onto toast, drizzle with fresh lemon juice, and top with crushed red pepper.

5. Pound Cake

Brush slices of pound cake with butter and leave on the grill for a minute or two. Serve with fresh berries and a scoop of ice cream.

6.Peaches

Halve, pit, and brush peaches with olive oil before grilling for three to four minutes. Slice and serve over greens with crumbled goat cheese, pistachios, and lemon vinaigrette for a memorable dinner salad.

7. Cheese

Halloumi, a firm, salty Greek cheese will melt slightly when grilled, but will hold its shape. Brush cheese slices with olive oil and grill for five minutes, turning over halfway through. Remove from grill and top with sliced fresh tomatoes and basil.

8. Pineapple

Grill sliced pineapple over medium-high heat for four to six minutes, turning once, to bring out the natural sugars. Remove from heat and serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

9. Watermelon

Slice watermelon into one inch thick slices and place on the rack of a covered grill over direct heat. Grill about four minutes in total, turning over once. Delicious!
